The Harper Decade Lecture Series — Kingston: Crime and Surveillance during the Harper Decade

October 13, 2015 by Avnish Nanda

On Friday, October 2, 2015, The Harper Decade, in collaboration with Juris-Diction, held its first lecture series event with Lisa Kerr and David Murakami Wood at Queen's University in Kingston.

The event focused on crime and surveillance policy under Stephen Harper. Lisa Kerr expanded on the piece she wrote with Anthony Doob for The Harper Decade by exploring the motivations that inform the Harper government's approach to crime policy, as well as its consequences. Afterwards, David Murakami Wood outlined the surveillance framework implemented by the Conservatives over the last decade and how greater intrusions on personal privacy do not lead to a safer country.
